United Water’s urgent maintenance work in North Rockland on Friday could result in discolored water.
United Water sent out a notice late Thursday afternoon, alerting residents in the villages of Haverstraw and West Haverstraw and the town of Stony Point that urgent maintenance work set for Friday may cause law water pressure or discolored water.
The discoloration is because of harmless sediment that accumulates in the water mains, said United Water Spokeswoman Deb Rizzi. While the water is safe, customers may prefer to wait until the water clears before using it for drinking, cooking or washing clothes, she said.
Rizzi suggests customers fill containers with water Thursday night for use on Friday.
The company apologizes for the inconvenience.
