The Jamaican Civic and Cultural Association of Rockland (JAMCCAR) will honor five local women at its annual Mother’s Day Luncheon and fundraiser, Saturday May 10, at the Hilton Pearl River, 500 Veterans Memorial Drive in Pearl River.
This year’s honorees are: Ann Marie Blackwood, Althea Hutchinson, Sonia Nelson, Lesleyann Samuel and Vivian Street.
“We are so pleased to turn the community spotlight on these five remarkable women at our annual salute to Mother’s Day,” said Dr. Clover Hall, JAMCCAR Board Member at-large and chairperson of the event. “They are champions of community care in areas such as health, local and global disaster-relief response, senior citizen outreach, fundraising and support of cultural organizations, civic engagement and advocacy; and are all active members of their respective churches.”
The luncheon is the organization’s primary spring fundraising event. It begins with a cocktail reception at 11:30 a.m. followed by a full lunch, a fashion show with designs from internationally renowned Hope Wade, from Camille’s and Toma Holley, a raffle, music by Raddy B Disco and entertainment by JAMCCAR’s Ekklipse steel band.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and can be obtained by contacting Winston Henry at 914-447-7031. Ticket prices are $65 for 2014 Dues-Paid JAMCCAR Member; $70 per guest; $35 for guests 6-18 years of age.
