The Haverstraw Town Board will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday at Haverstraw Town Hall at 1 Rosman Road, Garnerville, to adopt the negative declaration under the state environmental assessment review in relation to acquiring the Helen Hayes property.
The 25 acre property on North Central Highway is just north of the former North Garnerville Elementary School on Chapel Street and just west of Helen Hayes Hospital.
The land has been part of the Helen Hayes Hospital property, which is owned and operated by the state Department of Health. The lot has been sitting idle for years, except for some years when it was used for farming.
The town wants to build ballfields for Haverstraw Little League on that site.
Haverstraw town Supervisor Howard Phillips has said the land would cost the town $1. As a part of the agreement, Helen Hayes Hospital would use a ballfield for its rehabilitation program, he said.
