Green Gardener Certificate Program Overview The Green Gardener Certificate Program is a non-credit, adult education program offered to gardening enthusiasts, professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs in Rockland County. Students have the option of earning certification over the course of one or two years. AUTUMN 2013 COURSES
October 3 & 10, 2013, 12:00 pm -2:00 pm
$30 per person (2 sessions/ 2 credits) Instructors: Donna DeSousa & Eileen Bradford Would you like to grow vegetables, herbs and fruits in a traditional garden or integrate edible plants into beds, borders, and even containers? This two-part course will look at growing food, understanding site and soil, plant material, diseases, insects and techniques and design considerations for the edible garden. Growing & Caring for Indoor Tropical Plants and Orchids October 17, 2013, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm (1 Credit) Instructors: Ann Ellis, Carol Prestia, Celia Juris Extend your gardening season by growing orchids and tropical plants indoors, all year round. Learn which plants grow best in your home environment, when to fertilize, divide, re-pot and how to keep insects and diseases under control.
Introduction to Sustainable Gardening
Thursday, October 24, 2013; 6:30-8:30pm Instructor: Sonia Mason Sustainable gardening enables us to create an attractive landscape while utilizing the space for optimum results through soil and water conservation, plant selection and health care, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Learn how low-impact landscapes and gardens are designed to suit their unique environment with minimal input of water, fertilizers and pesticides.
• Pay as you Go – Registration fee for individual course is $15.
• Full Tuition Discount – Full tuition of $300 includes five Core Courses, three Practicum Sessions and five Elective Credits.
Students have the option of paying for each session as they go, or save up to $80 by paying the $300 tuition in full at time of registration. Please contact CCE office for more information on full tuition registration. Additional material fees may apply (where indicated).
