There is less than a one-day supply of the most commonly used blood type and the agency that provides hospitals in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam is asking the public to help replenish it.
The New York Blood Center is very low on O-negative blood as well as types B-negative and A-negative.
“Our 200 hospital partners have been great about working with us to manage the tight supplies following the holidays,” New York Blood Center vice president Rob Purvis said in a statement. “But, when patients need blood, they need blood, and our hospitals have requested more than our community has been able to supply over Labor Day and last week’s holidays.”
The blood center is asking people to visit a donor center or a blood drive this week. To find one close to home call 800-933-2566 or click here.
