Here’s the latest, via Twitter, from Suffern Mayor Dagan Lacorte, who’s been weighing in on the crisis in East Ramapo schools a lot lately. (Lacorte is among several people running for the Rockland County Executive seat.)

Lacorte’s letter urges State Education Commissioner John King Jr. to oversee the appointment of two new East Ramapo school board members to make sure the interests of public school students are served. Suzanne Young-Mercer and Stephen Price, the last two board members who aren’t part of the Orthodox and Hasidic communities, resigned last month citing intimidation and harassment by their fellow board members.
His second letter (see link above) to school board president Daniel Schwartz asks that the appointment process be “open and fair” and that the two new members “do not conform to the identical sentiment and philosophy” as the rest of the board, which is now comprised of seven Orthodox and Hasidic men.
The district is accepting applications for board candidates through Monday, Feb. 18.

Why are these people (Hasidics) on the board anyhow? None of their children go to public schools. They have all the voting control and want to control everyones money.
Mayor Dagan don’t understand that anyone the existing school board members appoint from the public sector will be nothing but puppets for this school board and community as Brendal Logan and Tony Earle are for the Town of Ramapo and County legislators. Suzanne Young-Mercer and Stephen Price were well versed in their tactics and shenanigans, and had the will power to stand up to them. What possible value-add could new public appointees bring that will cause this board to allow their input and influence the decisions made?
Robert…of course you are right. They will appoint some person that can be manipulated and then drag them into the budget problems that they caused…not to mention the insult it will be to Price and Young Mercer. Caution to all those who enter!

Suffern is not even in the district of #Eastramapo, so why did the Mayor feel for need to send this letter?
the reason is because what is happening in East Ramapo is going to roll down to the other districts look at what is happening to Boces. If they have to close a wing there will be no classes for other districts to send their Special Needs children to. and this is FACT!! I went to the big meeting and the little penence they paid is hardly a drop in the bucket!
