Nearly two decades after Rene Charles was gunned down outside his Spring Valley home, Daniel Jean Baptiste is scheduled to go on trial for murder in January at the Rockland County Courthouse in New City
Baptiste, 69, turned down the prosecution’s offer of 22 years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter, attorneys said Tuesday.
Baptiste’s lawyer, Gerard Damiani, said he would consider five years on a lesser crime, arguing the evidence doesn’t support a charge of murder or manslaughter.
