The stage at Clarkstown South was already taking on a woodsy look when I dropped by for a rehearsal of “Into the Woods,” with the forest canopy in place and a couple of the cottages ready for action.
The Sondheim story of what happens after “they lived happily ever after” is tricky to sing and trickier to stage, but director Justin Boccitto was gently working the cast through a number, stopping to make refinements, then settling into the front row to watch and laugh along with the rest of the company.
Act 1 ends as the fairy tales end, with happy endings.
Act 2 is another story.
Rapunzel’s a raving mess, the princes are less charming, Jack’s in hiding, the giant’s widow is ticked off, Cinderella is wandering in the woods, and Jack’s mother just got conked on the head….
Enjoy the Running Lines video from Clarkstown South. The show runs April 20, 21 and 22.
