Rockland Symphony Orchestra performing Feb. 12
You can count on a quality afternoon of music when the Rockland Symphony Orchestra performs.
So mark you calendar, because the orchestra will present Music for the Mid-Winter Holidays at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Cultural Arts Center at Rockland Community College, 145 College Road, Suffern.
Among the highlights of the performance are piano soloist Diana Hughes performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major, and guitar soloist Matthew Baier performing Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto in D Major.
Conducted by Marvin von Deck, the orchestra will perform Offenbach’s Overture to La Belle Helene to open the concert, followed by the solo performances and Songs for the Holidays by Baier. Holst’s Suite in E flat for Orchestra will conclude the program.
Hughes, resident of Tappan, is a faculty member at Bergen Community College and Montclair State. She has performed nationally and internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral pianist.
A composer and guitarist, Baier had presented an annual original chamber music recital at the now-defunct St. Paul’s Festival of the Arts in South Nyack. He also performs at Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack as well as throughout the Greater Metropolitan New York area.
Tickets will be available at door: $20; $15 for senior citizens; $ 10 for students. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets may be purchased in advance on line at www.brownpapertickets.com.
