The folks at Orange & Rockland Utilities have just let us know about a $10,000 grant awarded to People to People’s “Back to School with Dignity” program.
“ ‘Back to School With Dignity’ would not happen without significant support from O&R,” said Diane Serratore, executive director of People to People. This is the 10th year that O&R has donated to the program. Its donations since 2001 total $60,000.
She added, “We anticipate distributing over 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies this year. The number of families coming to us for food has increased and we know that the children in these families also will need school supplies.”
She’s on the left in the photo above, with Linda Feger, O&R’s manager of corporate programs, and volunteers Eliza, Niki and Patricia Manfredi, all of Stony Point, with Dale McGovern of Pearl River at the computer, tracking inventory.
The average cost of a backpack filled with school supplies ranges from $35 for a kindergartener to $150 for a high-schooler. Supplies include: calculators, binders, folders, notebooks, compasses, graph paper, pens, pencils, glue sticks, markers and more. “Back to School with Dignity” will provide supplies to People to People clients through Sept. 9.
