Fortunately, the bomb threat found in a restroom at Nyack Middle School yesterday turned out to be an empty threat.
The Nyack school district released this statement this afternoon regarding the scare:
“After working closely with South Nyack Police and the School’s Resource Officer and following school procedures for a bomb threat, the plan decided upon yesterday after the threat was found was carried out smoothly this morning.
At 6 AM police officers and the Sheriff’s bomb sniffing dogs surveyed the building and it was given an all clear. Students and staff bags were randomly searched by staff as they entered the building. There is a lockout process in effect, as is standard procedure in such cases. A lockout means all doors are locked and no one can leave or enter the building, nor vehicles are allowed to approach the building.
It is a regular instructional day, attendance appears normal and all is calm within the building. We are appreciative of the responsiveness of the police and the cooperation of all concerned as we followed district procedures in this type of event.”
