Chocolaterie has called Nyack home since it opened about four and a half years ago. Owner Annette van Loon says that she got into selling chocolate because she “can’t live without it.” In fact, she says, as a child, she loved chocolate so much that her mother told her she would get “really fat.” Though her mother’s words did not come true, her love of chocolate only increased. When she came to America about 10 years ago, she could not find any chocolate she enjoyed, and two very special Belgian chocolate bars inspired her to open a chocolate store, importing the candy from Europe. Van Loon’s love of chocolate still has not gone away, and she says she enjoys the treat during nearly every meal, including breakfast.
