Stony Point’s golf course makes state top 20
For the first time in its history, Stony Point’s Patriot Hills Golf Course, which opened in 2003, has made the New York State’s top 20 golf courses in the Golf magazine, and at least some town officials are excited about it.
“We have been working hard maintaining and improving the course year by year,” said Dave Fusco, director of golf operations. “And now it has finally paid off in a big way.
The September issue of the magazine published by Sports Illustrated has state by state listings of top courses and they picked 20 in New York State.
The golf course, which was planned as an $11.5 million project but ended up costing more than $20 million, has been a headache for Stony Point because it has been costing more to operate than it’s been taking in as revenue.
Town Supervisor William Sherwood said although the course construction has burdened the town, Patriot Hills has also been a great asset for town residents.
“Everybody who owns a home in Stony Point, that house is more valuable because we have that golf course,” Sherwood said. “It’s a beautiful course, a destination course.

PUBLIC Golf Courses. PUBLIC. As in PUBLIC. Without this adjective, the writer (either intentionally or inadvertently, which is worse,) hoodwinks the reading public.
