New bus shelter opens in Nyack
A long-awaited bus shelter opened this week in Nyack.
The $12,500 shelter, located at the corner of Artopee Way and South Franklin Street, will offer riders a respite from rain, wind and snow. It is adjacent to Nyack Plaza apartments and the Nyack Senior Center (and behind M&T Bank).
Earlier this year, Nyack Plaza resident Mary Johnson complained to the Village Board about the lack of an enclosed space at the popular location. The village ordered a pre-fabricated shelter in late May.
State Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee has included a $10,000 member item in the proposed state budget to cover the cost of the bus shelter. If that money doesn’t come through, the village will cover the full cost.
“With the promised financial assistance from Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee and the expertise of our DPW who installed the shelter, the Village Board was able to help meet a community need,” Trustee Steve Knowlton said in a release. “We know there is much more to do, but it’s certainly nice to see tangible progress every once in a while.”
Here are a couple of more photos of the new shelter that I took this afternoon.

Good job! Next step is to provide a shelter across the street for Tappan Zee Express bus riders heading to Westchester and Manhattan.
