A group of local Haitian-American organizations are seeking to collect 5,000 book bags filled with school supplies that will be given to children in Haiti in August.
Collections boxes were placed in schools in the Nanuet, Nyack, North Rockland and East Ramapo school districts today as part of the “5000 Club” mission.
The Rockland County Haiti Relief Campaign, Konbit Neg Lakay and the Hudson Valley chapter of Candidates of The Links are sponsoring the project.
Items, such as crayons, pencils and notebooks, also can be delivered to the Konbit Neg Lakay Community Center at 15 E. Church St., Spring Valley. For more information, call program director Daniela Ducasse at 845-425-4623.
Below are some pictures from Saturday when organizers and students got together at Konbit Neg Lakay to decorate the boxes.
