Ramapo Councilman Edward Friedman, a long-serving elected official in Spring Valley and Ramapo, died Friday after a long battle with cancer. He was 73.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hellman’s Memorial Chapels, 15 State St., Spring Valley.
Friedman, whose late wife Rhoda was Ramapo Democratic Party chairwoman and a Rockland political powerhouse, had been ill for months, unable to attend Town Board meetings.

The Town Board will choose a successor.
An election will be held in November to chose a person to serve out the final year of Friedman’s four-year term.
An election for a four-year term will be held in November 2011.
