Concert Preview

Today I photographed Anthony Newman, a world-renowned keyboard artist and Bach interpreter, in the Carnegie Room of the Nyack Public Library. Actually, I was taking pictures of both Anthony Newman and Yashar Yaslowitz, the executive director for the Soiree Society of Arts, for an upcoming story about the concert series beginning later this month.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the Nyack Public Library, and somehow I’ve never noticed the stately grand piano in the room to the right of the main entrance. After I finished taking the standard photos for Linda Lombroso’s future article, Mr. Newman began to play a few notes.

It was a privilege to be in the presence of such an accomplished musician, and it was clear he was where he feels most at home- seated at the piano. It was just one of those ordinary assignments that became something a little more special, so I wanted to share it here.

Although the Bach series won’t premiere until March 28, you can check out this week’s list of concerts and music events in the region- from Jay-Z to local karaoke nights- on MetroMix by clicking here.
