Four figurines that are part of a community creche in Braunsdorf Park in downtown Pearl River were damaged by vandals early Saturday morning. Orangetown police said an arrest was made, but would not released any further information.
Bob Reers, a resident on the committee that erects the nativity scene every year, said that four figurines were damaged, including a statue of St. Joseph, one of the Three Kings, a donkey and the baby Jesus, which had its fingers cut off. Reers estimated that the damage will cost $5,000 to repair.
The baby Jesus figure was stolen from the same creche in 2005 and never recovered. A menorah erected by the community was damaged in 2004 and 2000.
